Food growing in the heart of Clapham
We are a community garden run by dedicated volunteers, aiming to get their hands dirty, get outside, grow vegetables and have a good time.
We pride ourselves on providing an area for the local community to discover the joys and benefits of growing and cooking their own food, with the added benefit of taking home freshly picked fruit and vegetables.
We growing everything from squash to salad and veg for Sunday roast. And all of this lovely local produce is available to our members and passers-by for a donation, which goes towards keeping our garden growing.
Are you interested in the community, gardening, sustainability, the environment, your health and wellbeing or knowledge sharing? If the answer is yes, then drop in and see us – or take a peak at our activities From Seed to Feast in 2018.
COVID-19 – GARDEN OPENING.
During the coronavirus crisis a small group of our members have been keeping our garden growing and we now have veg to harvest. Although we are still unable to open our community garden normally, we are allowing a limited number of people on site on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12.30pm and Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. If you would like to pick up some fresh produce during these times please email email@example.com to say you will be dropping by.
If you would like to become a member of Bandstand Beds you can join here.
Our community garden is self-sustaining and has been built with grant funding, in kind support from Lambeth Council and kind donations from individuals. If you would like to make a donation to keep our garden growing please click on this link, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Squash and Bean Swap - what's it all about?
At Bandstand Beds we’re into the joy of germination.
The Chelsea Fringe, 18th May – 9th June, has inspired us to make an event of swapping squash and bean seedlings. It’s the perfect time, after all risk of frost has passed.
You’re invited to the Squash and Bean Swap, Lambeth 2013.
Share your seedlings at Swap events at community gardens all over Lambeth. Network with other growers across the borough.
All are welcome whatever the level of experience: community gardens, schools, individuals, families and other groups.
Then it’s a summer of watering and tending. Share your growing and cooking tips on facebook. In autumn there’s harvest, produce competitions, cook-offs, feasting and a recipe book.Find our constantly updated year-long calendar of events, top tips and info on our website and facebook.
Beans for drying and squash are grown all over the world for winter eating. Summer sunshine is converted to protein and carbohydrates. The fruits are choc-full of minerals and vitamins to see through the dark months.
Join in the growing cycle:
- Set up a Swap event and add it to the website
- Sow some seeds at home and bring the spares to a swapping event
- If you’re an experienced grower or cook, become a Swap Ambassador
- Share your growing and cooking pictures and top tips
