Bandstand Beds Association (BBA)

Food growing in the heart of Clapham

We are a community garden run by dedicated volunteers, aiming to get their hands dirty, get outside, grow vegetables and have a good time.

We pride ourselves on providing an area for the local community to discover the joys and benefits of growing and cooking their own food, with the added benefit of taking home freshly picked fruit and vegetables.

We growing everything from squash to salad and veg for Sunday roast. And all of this lovely local produce is available to our members and passers-by for a donation, which goes towards keeping our garden growing.

Are you interested in your gardening, sustainability, the environment, your health and wellbeing and your local community? If the answer to all or any of these is yes, then why not join us? For information about membership click on this link.

We garden on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, Wednesday evenings from 5 to 7.30pm (summertime only) and run an over 55s Grown-Up Gardening session on Monday from 2 – 4pm in partnership with Froglife’s Wild Times.

For more information about taking part in our gardening sessions click on this link.

Our community garden is self-sustaining and has been built with grant funding, in-kind support from Lambeth Council and generous donations from visitors to our produce stall on Saturday mornings.

In the last two years we have received financial and gift support from The National Lottery Community Fund, Leyland SDM’s Give London a Lift and Waitrose & Partners and Lambeth’s Changing Lives.

    Composting Workshop

10am to middayBandstand Beds, Windmill Drive, Clapham Common

At the end of last year we held an introduction to composting workshop to kickstart the use of the three new bays on the site beside our garden – see blog post.

The first section of our composting bays is now full and ready to be moved along to the second bay. With space to start a new green waste pile we will be holding follow-up composting workshop with Dan Priddle.

Dan teaches permaculture and no-dig gardening. His interests are in food growing and wildlife habitat in the urban environment. He lives in South London.

In this workshop Dan will recap on the basics of composting and the importance of recycling the green waste produced in our garden. He will also share tips and ideas on how you can compost at home if you have a garden.

This workshop is open to everyone over the age of 16*.

Cost? £10 donation or pay what you can afford.

Booking in advance necessary. To reserve a place on this workshop please email us.
