This year’s community feast at The Spinney was a fantastic fun-packed afternoon. Loads of lovely food made using our home-grown produce, creative kids’ activities and brilliant sunshine. What more could you ask for?
Things kicked off at around midday with the arrival of the Brixton People’s Kitchen mobile cooker, which was cycled over to Clapham by their project coordinator, Slyvie. Shortly after, a band of mums from Clapham Manor School arrived armed with chopping boards and bowls to prepare salad and dice veg for the kebabs, which were later cooked on The Spinney fire pit
The menu also included some amazing veg chili, scrumptious bean burgers made by Fiorella, who runs the café at Myatt’s Fields, and Diana’s delicious soup made from our home-grown squash. All followed by scrumptious marshmallows toasted on the fire.
Throughout the day more than 70 families came along to feast and join in the fun, which included some seriously scary pumpkin carving, bulb planting and natural thinker activities organised by The Spinney.
A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped to organise the day – and to everyone who came along to take part!
As Cllr Nigel Haselden commented: ‘The broad smiles on everyone’s faces said it all. A great setting and great food – a real boost for future events.’
So let’s have another one soon!
