Bandstand Beds Association (BBA) is a volunteer-led organisation formed by a group of gardening enthusiasts with a passion for environmental sustainability, sharing horticultural skills and providing an opportunity for the local community to discover the joys and benefits of growing their own food. Especially those with no outside space at home, but with a desire to get outdoors with their hands in the dirt!
We have three growing spaces on Clapham Common, our main garden on Windmill Drive, fruit beds opposite the playground and our namesake beds beside Pear Tree Café near the Bandstand. These are managed and maintained by our members who meet throughout the year. For more about opening times visit our Take Part page.
As well as being somewhere to grow food our community garden is a great place to get outdoors and meet people. There are always refreshments at some point during our gardening sessions, usually tea and cake. On Saturdays we often round the morning off with lunch prepared and cooked in our field kitchen, and this is available for a donation*.
We also run workshops on a variety of themes connected to horticulture, the natural environment and related topics. Take a look at some of past activities here on our Blog page.
Anyone over the age of 18 can become a member of Bandstand Beds. No horticultural qualifications are necessary but enthusiasm for food growing and the environment, along with a desire to learn and share gardening skills are essential.
We look forward to seeing you in our community garden on Windmill Drive, Clapham Common.
